The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jubrin, has said that no less than 20 persons, including members and non members have indicated interest to vie for the chairmanship of the board, a position that became vacant with the resignation of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

This is just as 12 governors of the party led by Governor Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday, stormed the secretariat and pleaded with the party to suspend its rescheduled congress in Adamawa State.

The PDP had given till Friday last week for interested candidates for the BoT chairman to indicate their interest as the election has been slated for January 8, 2013.

Briefing newsmen, yesterday, at the party's secretariat, Senator Jubrin, who refused to mention of the candidates, however, said that some of those who had written to indicate interest for the seat were not BoT members.

He said it was untimely for him to mention those who have picked forms as he was yet to formally brief the Board of the PDP.

The secretary, however, said that a screening process would be adopted to ensure that only BoT members as enshrined in the party's constitution were allowed to partake in the election.

He also did not rule out the possibility of a consensus in electing the BoT chairmanship.

Meanwhile, briefing newsmen after the NWC's meeting with the governors, national publicity secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh said that the party's constitution remained sacrosanct even as the NWC regarded the super delegate's status of the governors.

'We have been elected to administer the affairs of the party, but we have to take into consideration the views of the governors in doing that. I don't think there is a conflict between what the governors want and our constitution and there is no conflict between what we have done and the constitution. At the end of the day the governors and the leaders of the party are working in tandem for the progress of the party.
