The decision of the governor, was made public in a motion seconded by the former civilian Governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and adopted by about 28 members of the party's caucus after a voice vote initiated by the lawmaker representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Senator Emmanuel Paulker.
Governor Seriake Dickson claimed that the decisions at the meeting heralded a new beginning in the state PDP devoid of what he termed, 'mindless acrimonious divisions' between Bayelsa based politicians and those at the national level.
But LEADERSHIP gathered that some party leaders in the state were amused by the decision considering the position of the President as the National Leader of the Party. Others agreed that with the tsunami threatening to throw the state into crisis following the controversial screening process for candidates to represent the party at the forthcoming Local Government election, the president's presence was a relief.
Some close aides to the Governor told our correspondent that the scenario that led to the collapse of past administrations of Dr.D.S.P Alameiseigha and Chief Timipre Sylva might have been re-enacted in the state. The major players in the battle have been identified as Bayelsa based politicians led by the Governor and his loyalists and the disgruntled 'self-made' god fathers at the Federal Level and the Presidency.
Some senior members of the PDP told leadership that the crisis and controversy rocking the Party over the selection process for the Local Government election had led to the postponement of the Party primaries for the councillorship and Chairmanship aspirants.
